Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

So I am over the moon to be having a baby in November. It’s been a long 4 years whilst we tried to get pregnant and its finally happened. Being pregnant is a wonderful thing but it changes so much in your body so quickly that it’s been a bit overwhelming at times. At the time we went away I was 17 weeks and I’d started to show and I needed to rethink my wardrobe to dress the bump.

I love clothes and I like to feel good in clothes so just because I am pregnant does not mean I will now give up on wearing nice stylish clothes that make me feel good. A few people have now told me that I shouldnt spend/waste money on maternity clothes. But 9 months is a long time to wear the same jeans and 3 tops that fit over and over again. So I have bought some new stuff. Not all of it is maternity some of it is just oversized as that trend is on fire right now so it will last a very long time after Baby Bomo is born.

Here is my capsule wardrobe for a weekend away visiting family.

Day 1:

Today we travelled so I knew we were going to be in a car a lot of the day. I chose my really comfy and soft H&M skinny Mama jeans in grey. They have a soft over the bump sock that keeps everything in place but the look of a good skinny jean. On the top I wore a white vest also from H&M these are long line vests which you need whilst pregnant to cover the bump and they are so useful. Over the top I wore a blue and white striped shirt. This is also from H&M (sorry I had a H&M haul recently!) I like it because it reminds me of men’s pyjamas from the fifties which is wierd but I like it. It’s a very light shirt and its oversized. Today I tied it in the middle at my waist but you could leave it open and as bump gets bigger it will give the extra space I need. On my feet I wore my Kurt Geiger sparkly diamanté sandals because I felt like I needed a touch of glamour. Bag wise I used my new Cath Kidston over the body bag. This was a present for my birthday it’s pink which I love and it encourages me to pack less stuff which is what I need! Jacket wise I have a cropped denim jacket which I am wearing with everything at the moment also from H&M.

Day 2:

Day 2 was so sunny and warm. So luckily I had packed for different weather conditions. I chose a Maternity dress also from H&M it has a navy blue background with pink flowers in a ditzy print. It’s so feminine and pretty but also incredibly comfortable and breathable. On top of this I wore a bright Raspberry pink Cardigan from M&S. I love the thin knit cardigans from M&S I have a few different colours and I wear them with everything as they are so versatile. On my feet I wore some grey suede pumps from New Look as we were going to be walking about that day and I took my Cath Kidston over the body bag and some fifties inspired cool sunnies from Next. I felt very pretty and floaty all day.

Day 2: evening

In the evening it had cooled and begun to rain. We were popping out for some tea at the pub. I wore my grey skinny Mama jeans as mentioned earlier with a navy and white striped breton style tshirt again with the bright pink cardigan. Underneath I wore the same white vest to make sure my bump was covered. I wore my sparkly Kurt Geiger sandals to keep the look pretty and my Cath Kidston bag. So it was a good recycled outfit of the previous two, good capsuling.

Day 3:

Day 3 is Bank Holiday Monday. It was a casual day and although it was warm it was not sunny. We were travelling home in the afternoon as well so I needed something comfy again. I wore a cream and blue tunic dress from H&M this is a very flexible item and can be worn lots of different ways. The fabric is really soft and it drapes really well. Today I wore it over leggings from Sainsburys with my grey suede pumps. I wore my denim jacket and took my pink Cath Kidston bag of course.

Because I was packing for a chilled weekend away but with changing weather there was a spare item left over that I brought to go with my other Outfits just in case. A blue and white spotty dress that can be dressed up or down as it can be worn bardot style. This would be nice with the pink Cardigan or the jacket.

For weekends away it is always good to be clever with your packing and pack enough variety of clothes for weather changes in the UK as well as enough variety to keep you feeling good. But the smart bit is to pack clothes with a similar colour pallette so that you can be flexible with the combinations. My colour pallette this weekend was blue, white and grey with pink key pieces that can be mixed and matched for different occasions. Whilst being pregnant I think this is even more important as I don’t want to be lugging too much stuff around. I really enjoyed my new clothes and feeling pregnant but also still feeling and dressing like myself.

May Favourites

May Favourites

I love May. May is my birthday month so we normally have lots of lovely things planned. Expect lots of Birthday Presents in this list as I have been spoilt this year!

1) Wearing: Paris Dressing Gown

I have seen this dressing gown everywhere as of late and every time I go on and on about how much I love it. So eventually my Mum bought it for me from the Country Living Magazine Show we went to in April. It’s made by One Hundred Stars and is a very light dressing gown perfect for the warmer months. I love the colours pink and Tiffany blue colours and the vintage map of Paris that has been hand printed onto the fabric. I feel glamorous and vintage when I wear this and I just love it. You can get it online and in lots of little boutique shops.

2) Using: Benefit Porefessional Makeup

I went hunting for a new foundation this month as the Clinique foundation I was using was so heavy on my skin and I was leaving my face behind on other people and clothing. So I went to Benefit as it is always my first choice for makeup. I didn’t like their Oxygen Wow foundation so I was dubious but I was shown their brand new Porefessional Makeup. It comes in a tube with a hidden sponge applicator on the bottom and a press me button on the other end. It is so clever and I love clever makeup. You can wear it alone or on top of another foundation. I wear it on top of a tinted moisturiser and my skin looks smooth, glowy and poreless. It’s not a full coverage look so on blemish days I use concealer and powder. And they only have a few shades as its not a typical foundation. But I really love this as it is so light and as I am having a baby my skin is so sensitive at the moment and this doesn’t irritate me or clog pores. Great purchase.

3) Smelling: White Tea by Elizabeth Arden

For my birthday my husband got me a new perfume. I had smelt it in Debenhams the week before and I must have mentioned it to him. (Shameless hint). Its such a lovely light perfume for spring/summer. It has scents of White Tea, Italian Mandarin, Sea Breeze and Turkish Rose. It’s beautiful and so fresh. I love the simple white bottle as well perfect for my desire for things to be uncomplicated at the moment. And I spray it liberally everywhere.

4) Eating: Weetos

OK ok I know chocolate cereal is bad. I know this and I have a friend at work who tells me everyday how bad it is to eat Weetos but I am obsessed. I don’t know if it’s a baby craving or if it’s because I have denied myself this kind of food for the last 3 years and I am now relaxing my diet but I can’t get enough. I love them and they are my guilty pleasure. Also whilst suffering with Morning/Evening sickness these are the only things I could happily keep down. While I can I will eat Weetos.

5) Packing: Cath Kidston Tropical Print Over the Shoulder Bag

For my birthday my sister bought me an over the shoulder bag. Now I usually avoid these and prefer the larger throw it all in huge bag but as I want things to be simpler and lighter I wanted a smaller bag. I don’t usually shop in Cath Kidston either it’s not really my thing but my sister loves it and I have to say this fabric pattern with the tropical birds is more me then the other fabrics Cath likes. I like the pastel pink colour and I like the magnet closing on the bag as it’s easy to get things in and out. The strap is also adjustable and it encourages me to carry less stuff so it’s a winner.

6) Reading: My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Du Maurier

I have never read Daphne Du Maurier before. I have heard of her and I know she was a famous author in the thirties to the fifties. My grandma loved reading and she was a fan of this particular author and novel. I like reading books I know my Grandma also read as it makes me feel closer to my family as both my Grandmas died when I was so young. I read the blurb for this book and I had to buy it. It follows a man named Philip Ashley who has been brought up by his cousin Ambrose. They own a large estate in Cornwall and life is quiet and pleasant apart from his cousin having to travel abroad for health reasons in the winter. One such winter Ambrose travels to Italy which is where he meets Rachel a distant relative in Florence. Ambrose, an eternal bachelor, marries Rachel and then suspiciously dies of a brain fever. Philip is encouraged to invite Rachel to stay at the house where he also succumbs to her charms. However there are too many strange occurrences and mysteries around this women and Philip foolish in love makes some mistakes. Such a great romantic mystery thriller and it kept my guessing till the end. I loved it and quickly downloaded her other novels. This is also coming out soon as a film with Rachel Weisz so you know it has to be good!

I hope you enjoyed my favourites this month. I’ve been writing these lists for nearly a year now and they are a great way for me to keep track of my month.

What’s in my Makeup Bag?!

What’s in my Makeup Bag?!

I’ve been running around a lot recently. Weekends away, nights out, visiting friends and family etc and I’ve found that in order to do all of this I’ve had to streamline my makeup bag to take with me so I have my favourite products at an easy reach. I have a few makeup bags now of different sizes and sometimes I take smaller ones with me, say if I’m going out after work or if I’m out all day but my main makeup bag has become my best friend. I know that I can throw it into the case and go and that it will be alright. So I thought I would do a quick post of what is in my makeup bag?!

First of all there is the bag. I got it for a present last Christmas from my sister it’s by Cath Kidston. I like it because it’s got a plastic coating so it’s water proof and leaky product proof it also has an inner frame work so you can open it pretty wide to get stuff but it stays upright on its own accord. I also like the pink rose design, I am a pink inclined girl it speaks to me.

The bag

So whats inside? I’ll go through what I use in the order I use them. I start with my base. I use the Porefessional primer for priming my T Zone. The Seventeen Skin Wow which I use as a primer for the rest of my face and to add highlight it’s pretty and glowy. I’m currently using the Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Ivory. I like it its new for me as it’s very light but I do find itbuildable and does have a nice glow to it. For concealer I use my favourite Maybelline The Eraser Eye it’s so moisturising and perfect for under eye and concealing blemishes. To set it all I use the Seventeen Miracle Matte translucent loose powder.

Next up I would contour and blush and add highlight. I do all this now to let it sit on the skin and then I go back over before I go out if I feel I need more blush or shade. So for contour and bronzer I use the Benefit Hoola. I just love this the most and I’d recommend this to everyone. For blusher I’ve just bought myself Rockateur by Benefit as I love the shade for Autumn and the box blushers are easy to use as they come with their own little brush. For highlight I currently love the Sleek Highlight Pallette in Solstice. It’s so pretty and the highlight shows up and lasts really well.

Blush/Bronze and highlight mantra

Eyebrows. I’ve really got into the Eyebrow trend the last year or so I’ve been growing mine out to make them fuller which is finally working!  I currently use the Benefit Goof Proof pencil and the Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium Brown. These are both sample sizes and I really like them. If I don’t use these I have the Tanya Burr Eyebrow Pallette which is nice and then I’d set it with a clear Eyebrow gel. But for speed and ease of use I use these two little gems the most.

Brows on fleek

Then I would usually start eye makeup. I love eyeshadows but I normally only use them at weekends or for events and things. I have a lot of pallettes but at the moment I am using two the most as they are easy to carry and I like the shades. I have the NYC Dusk Till Dawn Dreamcatcher Pallette. This has some lovely nude shades and quite shimmery ones for making an evening look. I also love the Maybelline The Blushed Nudes pallette. I bought this this summer as I really liked the pink trend in eye looks and this pallette is lovely for making pretty day looks

Feeling shady

Mascara and eyeliner are my ultimate makeup essential I wouldn’t leave the house without at least Mascara and eyeliner on. I am all about thick luscious lashes and back liquid eyeliner in a  feline flick. It’s sort of become my signature look and my eyes look wierd without it. For Mascara I use the Maybelline Sensational Lashes and I layer it with the Benefit They’re Real. I just love the two combined it adds volume and flattery length.

For eyeliner I use either the Supercat Pen Eyeliner by Soap & Glory. Sometimes just this for a more subtle look and then sometimes I use Rimmel Glam Eyes in Black Glamour. Either on its own or layered with the Soap & Glory Pen. I have been experimenting recently with using a brown liner either in place of the black or just on my lower lash line and water line to make a more smoky effect and a more natural look. I’m using the Rimmel Exaggerate waterproof liner in Rich Brown. It has a smudger on the end that I really like.

Cleopatra coming at cha

Finally for lips I have three favourites in this bag for different types of looks. I have my ultimate red in the Rimmel Colour Rush lip crayon in The Redder the Better. Its perfect for this time of year and adding a touch of glamour to a makeup look for the evening or day. I also have the Tanya Burr Matte Lip cream in Martha Moo. This is so easy to wear, it’s a nice dusky pink shade and it lasts so well. And finally my favourite lipstick of all time probably is my Bourjois Colour Boost in Proudly Naked. I love this lipstick it’s a great nude shade and its really moisturising and glossy.

So that is my makeup bag. Full of the products I use everyday so I feel more like myself and can face the world.

Now I’ve got to squeeze it all back in…!
